Work with an existing layout
Sometimes a mobile site has already been styled using a layout created by our web design team or created by your own web designer. In those circumstances, SmartMobile may be used but will vary in how it responds to changes made with SmartMobile.
Do I have a custom or established layout in use?
An established layout is one that would have been selected by you from a list of established layouts created by our web design team.
A custom layout is one that would have been designed specifically for you at your request.
If you have a custom or established layout, a link to your established or custom layout will be entered into your Integration Settings Control Panel under Mobile Templates -> #1 Mobile Templates. If these Mobile Template fields are blank, then no custom or established layout is in use.
What do I do if I have a custom or established layout in place?
Some custom or established layouts will work fine with the SmartMobile. Other layouts are written with hard-coded menus and other CSS rules that ignore changes that you might make with SmartMobile.
Our suggestion is to try SmartMobile and see if it will work for you in conjunction with your layout. You can work in Preview mode to determine if you can work successfully with this combination. If not, no harm done. You may return to your site’s original state at any time by turning off SmartMobile.
Using SmartMobile with a custom or established layout in place
1.
Click the Mobile Layout tab and select a Mobile Site Layout Name that matches the name of the established layout that you had purchased. If your specific layout doesn’t exist or you had a custom site created, select Standard. List of established layouts you may have purchased.
2.
Click Save.
3.
Click the Mobile Website tab.
4.

a.
If so, return to the Mobile Layout tab and remove the checkmark “Use my existing template specified in Integration Settings”. Use only SmartMobile to manage your mobile site going forward. Your existing layout will not be used and management is under your control inside SmartMobile.
b.
If not but the “look and feel” is close or it is a look that you like, change the colors and fonts with the selections under Mobile Layouts->More Styling Options. Make changes and then return to the Mobile Website tab and select the “Preview my mobile site using SmartMobile” checkbox. If it looks good now, follow step 4a above. If not, continue performing this step until the look is satisfactory.
Note: certain styling options on the Mobile Layouts tab will not affect the “look and feel” of the mobile site due to hard coded CSS rules within a particular layout. See 4c below.
